Can I create a custom thread status for cases waiting on development?

No. Thread statuses in Plain are fixed and the same for every workspace. You cannot add a status such as "Pending Development" or "Awaiting Implementation".

The statuses are Todo, Snoozed and Done. Todo splits into Needs first response, Needs next response, Investigating and Close the loop. Snoozed splits into Waiting for customer and Paused for later.

The closest built-in statuses

Investigating is the closest fit for a thread that is blocked on internal work. It shows that your team is working on the request before replying. It does not distinguish between active investigation and waiting on an implementation task.

Close the loop is set automatically when a linked Linear or Jira issue is resolved. Plain resurfaces the thread when the implementation is complete.

Workarounds

  • Labels. Create a label such as "Pending Dev" or "Awaiting Implementation". Labels are visible in the queue, can filter saved views and can trigger workflows. This is the most visible option.
  • Thread fields. Create a dropdown thread field such as "Implementation Status" with values like "Pending Dev". Thread fields work as queue filters, sort criteria and workflow conditions, so they suit tracking more granular states than a label.
  • Thread links. Link the thread to the Jira task. When the issue is resolved, Plain moves the thread to Close the loop automatically.
